SEA-Teacher 4th Batch : Day 1
Day 1
Today, is my first day in
Philippines. Actually, we should arrived in 6th August 2017 at 21.30.
But because the flight was delayed, finally we arrived in Ninoy Aquino
International Airport (NAIA) Philippines in 7th August 2017 at
05.00. This is my first experience went to the other country. I waited in the
airport with my friend that also came from Tadulako University Palu, Indonesia.
Her name is Grace. She lost her luggage in Singapore, so she didn’t bring
anything with her, except her backpack. It makes her so stress. We tried to
make a claim to the flight company in the airport, and then they give us a
claim letter and also told us that the luggage is already sent, so we must
waited for two until seven days to it for arrived. We felt tired, so we just
sit in the desk and sent email to the Roosevelt College Inc (RCI) as our Host
University. After waiting for 30 minutes, we got replied from mam Dena Culaba
as the Dean of RCI and she said that they already waited last night for our
arrival and now they are in their way back to RCI. She also informed us that
the airport is two hours away from RCI and impossible if they will back to the
airport again. So she asked us to get helped from the airport security and
don’t believe anyone. She also told us to get airport taxi and she will paid
for the cost. So we asked some helped from the security and get taxi to the
RCI.
We arrived in RCI at 10.30 and
greeted by mam Dena. She bought us some food, because we are so hungry. She
also asked me about food that I can’t eat and I explained her about “Halal”
food. After that, she brought us to our room. In that room, there are two side
door. In the first side there are living room and the kitchen, and in the
second side there are our bedroom and bathroom. I felt so amazing, because the
room is like a hotel. There are two Air Conditioner (AC), six bedroom, and many
other facilities inside. The bathroom also so cool, there are bathtub and
shower, we can wash everything in that bathroom. The kitchen also have all the
tools we need to make our own food. Beside our room, there is also hot kitchen to
cook and washing machine. I’m so glad to get all of it, because I never imagine
that the facilities will be like this and it makes me feel like in my own home.
I choose my own bed and put all of my stuffs in there and go with mam Dena to
get some explanation about the school and the teachers. We walked around the
school and see all of the facilities that this school have. She also introduced
us to the teachers in that school and explained us about the school rules and
system. After that, she asked us to get some rest because she knew that we were
so tired because of the trip. So we back to our room and tried to get some
rest.
In the afternoon, I just sat
in the living room and talk with Grace. She felt so stress if she remember
about the luggage. When we still talked, someone knocked the door and we opened
it. Mrs. Dena came with the other teacher and asked us about all of something
that we need. She also promised that tomorrow she will brought us to the
airport again to picked up the other students that come from Indonesia too and
also checked Grace’s luggage. In the night, I got up and organized all of my
stuffs. I also get acquainted with my roommates. They are from different
country and different places. Three girls are from Thailand, their name are
Jam, Diu, and Ying. The other one is from Indonesia but she is from different
province with me. Her name is Dewi, she come from Banjarmasin, Kalimantan. She
study math education in Lambung Mangkurat University. We eat our dinner
together and share our food. After that, we talked about our self and our
country. We went to sleep at 22.30.
